How to remove Sharpie ink from sunglasses?

I dropped a red Sharpie Marker on my friend’s sunglasses(the tip of the marker landed on the frame, not the lens) and I was wondering if there was any way of removing the mark without damaging the finish on the glasses. The part that is marked is made of plastic. I haven’t tried anything yet, so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Bissell kitchen cleanser will clean sharpie of of most anything. Occasionally Mr. clean magic eraser will also. Magic eraser is available most everywhere, but the bissell kitchen cleaner is in a green-blue color spray can available at most dollar stores. Do not spray the bissell in any wallpaper it will take the color off.

INSIGHT

I’m sure that you’ve seen the coin through sugar pack trick. The magician takes a coin and a sugar pack, makes the coin disappear, and the magically when, he opens the sugar pack, the coin falls out of the pack. But have you ever done this trick with a signed coin, and show both of your hands empty after pushing the coin into the pack of sugar?

I watched other magicians, perform this illusion time and time again, but something was missing from the performance. I like visual magic and the old coin into sugar pack trick just didn’t cut it. Playing around with this trick, trying several different ways to make the coin go into the pack of sugar, visually. I finally came up with the result I was looking for. Although when you read below, you’ll say “well Duh!” But trust me, it wasn’t easy to come up with this ending for the trick.

Sweet Seal 2 is similar to the first version Sweet Seal but I feel that this packs more of the wow factor that I like to get out of the spectator(s). There is no gimmick to make up before you perform and Sweet Seal 2 can be done on the spot.

The Gimmick

Remember when I create my magic, I like simple and visual. These two things are a must and there is one gimmick that is on the market that does both of these things. This gimmick is the thumb tip. This gimmick has been around for years and years and has hundreds of uses. You just have to use your imagination.

You can buy a thumb tip gimmick on line at any magic website store. I use a cheap $3.00 plastic thumb tip. My thumb tip is plastic/vinyl. It is both hard and flexible. I don’t have to worry about it breaking or cracking, plus I can wash it to make it look like new again. A thumb tip is a must for every magician.

I once had someone email me asking how I did one of my illusions that I posted on You Tube. I told him I used a thumb tip and he was floored. He didn’t realize that a thumb tip could be used like that. He as seen the old silk into fist routine and tricks similar to that, but never like I used it.

The Explanation / Performance

This explanation will be short and sweet. Because the trick is short and sweet. Magic doesn’t have to be hard and complicated to do to pack a punch.

I use this trick when I perform at restaurants and bars and I borrow everything or have the spectator(s) hand everything to me. I think this adds to the illusion. Because they pick and choose everything I’m going to do magic with. The only thing I supply is the pen so they can sign their name on the coin with.

When you are with a group of people, ask to borrow a coin. I like to use a quarter for this trick, but the coin selection is up to you. Pull out a sharpie marking pen and have one of them sign their name or put their initials on the coin. I like to have the thumb tip on before I perform but you can slip it on as you

Take the pen back and put it in your pocket. Next ask someone to grab a sugar pack off the table. It doesn’t matter what brand. For added effect here, you can have then sign the sugar pack so they know you didn’t switch the packet.

I have the thumb tip on my right thumb, so I grab the pack with my right hand (keeping my palm down) and transfer it to the left hand. As I grab the packet, I also slip off the thumb tip keeping it behind the packet of sugar. Next grab the coin with the right hand and slowly slip it behind the sugar pack, really slipping it into the thumb tip. Once the coin is in the tip, slip your thumb into the tip and pretend to push the coin through the back side of the packet. As soon as the coin is “pushed through” the packet, drop the packet on the table. Show that your hands are empty in a casual way.

The best way is to point your finger tips at their faces. The optical illusion factor takes over. With all the fingers pointing at them. It is very hard to see the thumb tip. Plus they won’t be thinking of a thumb tip because they don’t know about it. Also, they won’t be looking for a gimmick because they will be looking for a coin. I usually show my hands empty and then wipe my hands together then pick the packet back up from the table. You will want to pick up the packet before anyone get curious and decide to pick it up themselves.

The thumb tip should be on the right thumb, so pick the packet up with your right hand and shake the sugar down to one side. Transfer the packet from the right hand to the left hand, slipping the thumb tip back off, hiding it behind the packet once again. The rest of the trick is just as simple. Holding the thumb tip in place with your left thumb and the rest of the finger in the front of the packet, tear open the sugar pack and ask someone to hold out their hand. Start to pour out the sugar and when about half the sugar is poured out, squeeze the thumb tip and let the coin fall out into their hand.

As they are looking to make sure it’s their original coin, simply transfer the sugar pack from one hand to the other. Slip on the thumb tip and set the empty packet onto the table. As they look at the coin. You can ditch the thumb tip into one of your pockets.

About the Author

Ray was introduced to magic by his Jr. High School shop teacher in a small town called Emmaus. Since then magic was a hobby for him performing for family and friends. But once he discovered YouTube and found magic videos on it, he decided to share his own magic with others. The feedback he received was great. Particularly Tim Feher provided the encouragement to continue along this path. And ever since Ray is creating visual and unusual magic.

His biggest influence is Jay Sankey. He is inspired by his out-of-the-box thinking. Ray found another friend and teacher in Dennis Barlotta, one of the very few men alive who truly understand the Slydini method of magic. Ray now enjoys performing promotional magic for local restaurants, part time.
