Finishing Off Your Paper Flowers
There are several ways of finishing off your paper flowers. By finishing off we mean by adding a touch of shine, color, sparkle and even scent just to mention a few of the finishing touches you can apply to a paper flower.
In this article we will look at a few of the ways of finishing off your paper flowers. Once you have finished making a beautiful paper flower you can of course use it as is in a centerpiece, bridal bouquet or any other way you see fit. If you want to give that paper flower a little more life then you can try one of the options listed below.
Adding Color
Adding color to your paper flowers is very easy. The first step is to make sure you are working with crepe paper that will not run and ruin your flowers. To test this use a scrape piece of paper and use water ever coloring method you have choose for the flowers.
Below is a list of options for adding color to your paper flowers:
• Watercolor or artists paints and an assortment of brushes
• Markers
• Crayons
• Chalk – colored and white
• Powder eye shadow or brush (rouge)
• Water
Adding Sparkle
The most commonly used sparkle is glitter. After you have your flowers completed adding whatever finishing touches you want to them simply sprinkle a little glitter (color(s) of your choice on the flowers and gently shake any excess off.
Adding Shine
Hair spray is what you will need to add some shine to your paper flowers. Make sure it is not alcohol based and if it is use a piece of scrape paper to make sure it will not run and ruin the flowers. Spray a coat of hair spray on the flowers stand about three feet away to spray the flowers, let it dry and if you would like more shine spray some more. You cannot fix it if you use to much the first time so this method takes a little longer but will not add more shine than you want. Once the shine is on it does not come off!

Waxing the Paper Flowers
• A double broiler or a heavy duty stock pan for melting the wax.
• A candy thermometer to measure the temperature of the wax so you know when to remove it from the stove.
• Wax or white candles from a dollar store
• A small paint brush if you would rather brush the wax on instead of dipping the flower in the wax.
• Oven mite and safety goggles
Waxing flowers needs to be done quickly as the wax cools it will not stick to the flower instead it will run off and make a mess on the surface you’re working on. Having a few people to dip the flowers is a good idea and making small batches of wax at a time is helpful so you do not waste the wax either.
