Management Hewlett Packard – The story of Charles of the house: How to disobey the boss and get a medal for him
As a business student and administration, I heard many interesting stories of Hewlett Packard. It is no secret that computer, printer, toner and ink manufacturers have some the best managers and, as a company, are the envy of many a multinational organization to promote their culture and the people focus on innovation.
This is the story of Charles (Chuck) House, the head of engineering companies from Hewlett Packard. Chuck had always been an innovator and always had a deep commitment with their roots to their work. This probably explains why in the eighties, Chuck decided to go to work on a monitor screen of the large computer. No wonder I hear you say! Well, the thing was that David Packard (co-founder of the Hewlett-Packard Company) had ordered Chuck good ol 'stop work on the screen and left the project. History tells us that Chuck ignored the order from above and moved on.
The original results of marketing research had estimated the company would sell thirty of these monitors high-quality precision and seemed a waste of time. Fortunately, Chuck House did not agreement. Hewlett Packard has sold more than 30,000 monitors and have been used in many industries manned space missions to open heart surgery.
In recognition of Chuck pig headed optimism and commitment to work for the company, even risking his own job security when you close your ears to the orders your company, Chuck was awarded the Medal of Hewlett Packard at home, for "extraordinary contempt and defiance beyond the call of duty." Chuck is recognized by Hewlett Packard and the IT industry and is one of the great leaders of modern management. Dr. Charles "Chuck" House since then has worked as Political Science and Social Impact Director of Intel Corporation and is currently the CEO of Media X, technical advancement of the University of Sanford and innovation program.
