Does having a PhD make it harder to find a job in industry?
My partner has a PhD in mechanical engineering (he got a scholarship to do it) but now wants to work in the environmental sector, but is finding it very hard to find a job.
Look at the job ads. Lots of places want PhD’s, they just don’t have money to pay for them in this crappy economy.
He can always leave the PhD off. Only then, he will have to fill in the holes in his resume.

Getting the Most from Great Minds with Distance Learning Engineering
Engineering as an undergraduate degree is surely one of the hardest of all applied sciences. There are several branches of engineering that have sub branches among them are industrial, environmental, electrical, mechanical, and civil just to name a few. As it is a difficult degree to earn because of your aptitude to applied mathematics must be strong, it is also challenging and rewarding to those who do have a penchant for problem solving. There are many facilities or improvements that we have today that are due to engineers. The most evident of them are the construction of bridges and mega structures like dams, dikes elevated highways. These were all done by civil engineers who enable us to live better or to ply our trade through the construction of roads. The availability of products like Coke, Pepsi and ice cream cones were made possible through the construction of efficient and optimal product lines whose designs were done by industrial engineers. Our own electricity and power supply is owed to the electrical engineers whose designs for power plants and the transmission lines have made our lives more convenient. The engineers are probably the smartest of us all and they are also the most humble as to them it is not in their names and honors that they seek recognition for, but in their works and designs that enable us to live a better life.
Engineers are busy men and women so the need for Masters engineering courses meant that they take time off from their busy schedule to attend to lectures and courses, or to make position papers on their specific subjects. In fact there were only a handful of engineers with masters or phd courses since most were busy with their work. But with distance learning engineering programs now available, there has been a rise in engineers either getting their Masters programs or getting their certifications for certain specialties. After listening to an online discussion between some engineers and a lecturer it became apparent why. The engineers were focused on discussing issues which everyone was keen to listen to and say their mind. Because of the current technology, the discussion was often times animated and lively even as they were talking and then sending their own calculations for everyone to see. It was also apparent that these engineers enjoyed their time with their peers as it was both downtime and yet it was a chance for them to share their own inputs and perhaps experiences with certain issues and problems.
Distance learning engineering for engineers was also another way for them to congregate and shoot the breeze.
