Computer cleaning cooling fan/blades Advice please.
What was the seemed to be dried out clear/transparent hardened gel fan area where the finned metallic heat sink attached at computer microprocessor chip contact point/area? Was it dried thermal heat sink gel like di-electric compound? And should I re-apply such when identified? Thanks, J.

Thermal compound is usually very cheep. 3-15 dollars per tube, and you can use it for quite a few times before it runs out. Newegg.com has lots, CompUSA, Staples, any local computer repair shop should have some.
I use Arctic Silver myself.
