At what point is blood pressure so low that regular anti hypertensive med should not be taken?
If someone’s blood pressure is normally close to 130/90 while on an antihypertensive medication but the BP drops to 96/46 due to severe infection, would it be safe to continue giving the med? I would really appreciate only serious answers. Thanks =)
I understand that the BP is fine if there are no symptoms present. My question is if it would be safe to give someone an antihypertensive med if their BP is already very low and obviously dropping due to an infection (Jia- infection, such as sepsis, can cause a major drop in BP).
In the hospital, we hold antihypertensives for systolic BP less than 100. A BP that much changed could indicate sepsis, though–the person should be evaluated by their doctor!
