Grip Roller Ball
Why do my toes hurt after skating?

Hi there,

I have been playing street (ball) hockey for about 3 years now and have gotten into skates (in-line roller blades) in the last 2 weeks. About a week ago I started noticing pain in both my feet. My toes (not including my big ones) when flexing start to hurt. I flex my toes downwards so it’s like gripping action. The middle joints of my toes is where the pain is. When I touch my toes they feel pretty bony. I don’t think I have arthritis because I’m only 19 and don’t drink soda at all. I don’t know if it’s from skating, but I started experiencing the toe pain when I started skating. My feet are size 8 1/2, and my skates are 8. I was told to get 1 size lower like a 7 but the store ran out. My skates fit decently well and if I tie them tight enough my ankles don’t wobble. So I don’t think it’s my skates. My toes go about 1 – 1 1/2 cm from the top of the skates. Anyone help me out?

I had the same problem. First… try not to clench your toes while skating. Most people do it during Sharp turns. Next… tie your skates tight at the ankle and loose at the toes. I know that is the opposite from what professionals do but it made my feet hurt less.
