You have your desk, printer and comfortable chair. You have made difficult decisions about whether to buy a PC or Mac to get an attractive appearance, but now it's time to ask whether it is good the most of your home office.

Too many people simply replicate the style of working offices, before they made the bold move to go it alone.

However, now there are no rules – the space is yours, so you start to use the way that helps you to better jobs.

Remember: Great home office from self-knowledge. Sit down and make a list of things he loved and hated things about working in a conventional office. Even you can use your new computer to design a spiffy design.

Ask yourself real questions about how you worked when I was at his best. Did you like to keep everything clean piles of easy reference – or you prefer to spread all that much space as possible to see all documents at once? What about memory? Did you keep your to-do list in your notebook, on your computer or Post-It Notes stuck to any surface can be found?

Basically, if you were a person becomes more complicated when you're working hard do not think you have changed. It makes no sense the creation of an office style showroom does not meet its working methods. So if you need more space to sprawl, ensure there is enough surface. If you are a Post-It person design a space dedicated to all the reminders.

And do not just think of the horizontal. Now you own the space, to take full advantage of the vertical. Very often people with home offices forget to use the walls around your table work as way to keep your desk free from clutter and supplies close by. Take a trip to your local DIY store check out the kitchen and bath show ideas storage very good too. For example, the divisor of a draw could be covered could be the perfect item to store everything from pens glue sticks clips.

Light is the next important factor – far more than the speed of your broadband or quality of your letterhead. Without enough light you tire easily and are less productive, often without realizing you. While his colleagues in the office are doing their best to deal with flickering fluorescent tubes, there is nothing that prevents you from going out and investing in full-spectrum bulbs that simulate sunlight. Again, the details of such are the joys of having your own space.

Of course, if you go the whole hog and start a home office from scratch can choose to have extra lights placed where needed. While you're at it, reflect on the wiring. The technology is to move all the time, so if you can afford to splash, look at investing in hybrid phone cable that blends traditional copper lines, coaxial cable and fiber optic technology. Not particularly cheap, but as the electrical and telecommunication needs increase will not have to deal with the hassle of breaking through the plaster in the walls every time you want to upgrade.

Wi-fi is also worth considering. Undoubtedly, part of the point of working from home is the feeling that you're not stuck in the office all day. Well, now you can achieve that feeling by taking your laptop from your desk to the kitchen when you fancy a cup of tea and a change of scene.

The need to move around the house once in a while is normal, and stay in one place for too long can make you feel uncomfortable. Fortunately, however, in his office at home I do not burdened with a one size fits all furniture or seat that has lost most of its support in 1998.

Now you own your own domain, so think ergonomic. To examine the association from his chair, computer screen and keyboard. If not perfect, take time to fix it. You will feel the benefits after a whole day watching the screen. Office Supply stores have all the basics – a foam pad to keep your wrists up when you type or a fully adjustable chair with lumbar support and several height adjustments to be just for you. And what is right? For perfect posture, position, what he is sitting up straight with feet flat on the ground. It's that simple.

You may even consider lifting a chair and his desk making high enough to use up. It is a great solution for people who suffer from back pain.

Finally, invest in a lock. In 'real' offices no qualms genuine loans someone stapler or pen that is just there. At home, unfortunately, still no scruples. A child will wrap a present I see nothing wrong in borrowing to tape, but invariably forget to put it back. That's not good for you when you've spent an hour looking for a seal. Y as you can not simply borrow from another desktop is better to prevent people going with your stuff in the first place.

In general, you should consider managing your home office as a business issue as a regular office management. Although it may feel like it, working from home is not only a lifestyle decision – is an important business decision as well. You do not just need a reliable infrastructure but would be one – and possibly contract – approach to work to fulfill. But do not be afraid to think outside the box, after all, that's what you're trying to escape in the first place.

What is the best kind of desk light to read?

I am currently looking to buy a new desk lamp. My question is, what type of light is best for reading? "I currently have an architect lamp with an incandescent bulb, which can create glare when light is reflected in the pages bright. Is there any particular light that you would recommend? Could it be simply a matter of keeping my current lamp and simply change the style of the bulb, or should I be changing my halogen lamp to something / fluorescent, etc? Thank you for your help.

Halogen is the best lighting to use when reading. With that being said, if you like your lamp current, which certainly can get a halogen bulb socket that will fit into regular incandescent lighting in a room store or home depot / Lowes. Look for a bulb watts Halomax 60-100. If you are looking for a change, I'm sure we could find an affordable desk lamp in the local IKEA, Lowes, Target, or online stores such as Bellacor.com BackBayLighting.com or
