I was at college today playind b-ball and i was fine whilst playing but when i finished my vision went wierd i had like a flickering light in my left eye and there was string like floaters in my field of vision and i also felt really drained and tired…after about 10mins it went and now i feel fine again….what was it?
You hay have low blood sugar. If you’ve skipped a meal, your blood sugar dips really low. Because your body doesn’t naturally produce sugar, it has to take it from stored sources. Because sugar is the brain’s main fuel source, low blood sugar can have a pretty adverse effect on the body. Your vision is brought about by nerves, which get information to and from the brain. Without sugar fueling the brain, it can’t function properly.
Also, that’s EXACTLY what happens to me when I’ve skipped a meal, because I have low blood sugar. I all of a sudden feel very hot, light headed and dizzy, and have to pause. My vision then gets weird & I see the floating lights. Also, sometimes my vision seems to do “double takes,” where my eyes seem to vibrate for less than a second. My aunt has fainted a few times because she also has low blood sugar.
It’s nothing too dangerous if properly managed. However, you should definitely go to the doctor for a blood test. Left untreated, having low blood sugar could cause serious harm to your body, even possibly a coma. You just have to have something to eat every once in a while. Carrying a candy bar or a peppermint or some sort of candy around is a good idea, in case you ever have another attack.
