why automatic transmission vehicles going back uphill to start after stopping?
I have a honda civic 2008 … say that I stopped at a signal on an uphill climb … when I go, release the brakes, the car goes backwards … I have full throttle … What mechanics is the reason behind it … I noticed that Ford cars do the same thing
With an automatic transmission, no direct connection between the engine and transmission, but a fluid coupling exists. The coupling device called a torque converter. The torque converter has a box full of liquid and two drivers (sort of similar propellers). One is attached to the motor, the other is connected to the input shaft of the transmission. When the engine is running, the impeller input turns and causes the fluid to exert a force on the impeller outlet connected to the transmission. As engine speed increases, the liquid also increases force. When a car is idling, the fluid in the torque converter exerts a force on the drive transmission. When the car is on ground level, this makes the car to slide forward when on a hill, the car creep forward or remain in the same position, or roll back. What Car not depend on how steep the hill and how the torque converter is designed. torque converters are designed to have a "slide" and design of different manufacturers in different amounts of slip. With a Honda, is not enough "slip" to allow the car to roll backwards. There is no harm to keep the foot on the brake when the light turns green, while the progressive implementation of the throttle. When you feel the car you wish to continue forward, but the resistance of the brakes, smoothly release the brake and the car will move uphill with no backward movement. This may require some of practice to get the right time. You do not want to overdo it, easy on the throttle and smoothly release the brakes. Once the brakes are off, please ask for more aggressive throttle. A feature of modern torque converters is blocking functions. This blocks the entrance and the drivers of output together so there is no slippage. The torque converter is "locked" at highway speeds and slightly reduced engine speed and reduces losses torque converter. The lock-up feature was added to improve fuel economy.
