Can this dog be trained not to eat everything he sees?
I have a 10-month-old Cocker Spaniel who eats everything. In his short life he has ingested, and lived to tell about it, a box of Q-tips, three rolls of toilet paper, five artificial geraniums, four rotating heads from an electric razor, two pairs of eyeglasses, one paycheck and assorted lipglosses, chapsticks, ink pens and mascaras.
We watch him constantly and keep everything off the tables, but every time we let up our guard, he is right there eating something. I have been trying to redirect and correct this behavior since we got him, but it isn’t working. Will he eventually catch on and/or grow out of this, or do we have to keep our garbage cans on top of a cardboard boxes for the next 12 to 15 years?

I have a pom who does the same thing. Anything she finds is fair game. Every toy she has ever gotton she ate the tags off. She loves to get the stuffing out of toys, pillows etc. and eat it. She is now almost 3 and not quite so bad, but I try to keep things out of her reach. Perhaps if you spray some items that you dont want with a spray that tastes bad, he may not find these things so desirable. It is important to make sure he has something to chew on.
